It’s the holidays on the Iceberg, and that means it’s time for the jolly Penguin family to decorate…Mom!
The art for The Penguin Tree, was inspired by this photo in which my sister, Janice, is decorating ME for the holidays:
The Process
The Sketch
This is the only sketch that I did for The Penguin Tree. I was having a really great sketching session, and in addition to the idea for this image, a lot of great ideas came from it. I love it when that happens. It’s so much fun!
Side note: This sketch is only 1 1/2" tall.
The (very) rough color sample
Occasionally, I have a difficult time visualizing the color for the final image in my mind. That's when I play around with the color in Photoshop until I get it right. This one is a bit rough, but it was enough for me to figure out what I wanted to do. This makes painting the final piece much more relaxing and easy.
